Debut Albums of 2013

Palma Violets

This is the indie guitar band that the NME have been waiting for. Likened to the Libertines and signed to the same Rough Trade label, they will be the band that everyone will be talking about when their debut album ‘180 ‘surfaces in February. Their debut single ‘Best of Friends’ was voted NME’s single of 2012 and they have been announced to play the NME Awards Tour 2013.

Little Green Cars

An Irish band of 20 year olds, Little Green Cars possess a country-rock sound similar to that of Mumford and Sons. The vocal harmonies of the male and female lead singers works well and could lead them to chart success in the coming year if they manage to refine their sound for their debut album ‘Absolute Zero’. The band will tour the UK in February in support of the album.

Solo artist Elena Tonra has added to her ensemble since her arrival on the music scene almost 2 years ago and now Daughter are a 3-piece band. The additions add a whole new dramatic layer to the songs and create a haunting atmosphere around Elena’s beautiful lyrics. Having already released numerous EP’s, most notably ‘The Wild Youth’ released on Communion, her debut album ‘If You Leave’ will be released in March on the 4ad label also home to Bon Iver and The National

Tom Odell

Tom Odell came to public attention with his performance on Later…With Jools Holland in November; sat alone at his piano, he showed the world his raw talent for song writing that has made him one of the hottest prospects of 2013. He has an edge to his piano playing and an angst to his lyrics that has drawn comparisons to Jeff Buckley. His debut album will not surface until July, but expect the buzz to build before then.
